Bridgeport Main Street cultivates a vibrant downtown, one that embraces the past and celebrates the future, through preservation, economic development, and community involvement.
The City of Bridgeport is committed to preserving our downtown business district by using our past to promote our future. In 2007 Bridgeport was named a Texas Main Street City by the Texas Historical Commission and Texas Main Street Association. Bridgeport Main Street has been a Texas Main Street City since then and has monthly and annual criteria to keep up this distinguished recognition. Bridgeport Main Street has been recognized as a Nationally-Accredited Main Street Program since 2016.
Bridgeport is fortunate in that we’re not fighting for our survival like many small Texas towns, but we are fighting to maintain our identity. As welcome growth hurtles our way, it’s more important now than ever to protect, preserve, and glorify the things that gave us our roots and make us unique. Our downtown is our heart, and it takes all of us to keep it healthy.

- Main Street Program -
The Texas Main Street program is a designation awarded by the Texas Historical Commission and is affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The program focuses on revitalizing historic downtown business districts, both architecturally and economically.
Bridgeport was a “provisional” city in 2006. Bridgeport joined the Texas Main Street program in 2007. The purpose of the Bridgeport Main Street program is to stimulate growth and strength in our downtown district by improving infrastructure, emphasizing the historic significance and cultural charm of Halsell Street, and encouraging commerce and tourism downtown.
One of the great benefits of being affiliated with Texas Main Street is that there are a series of proven revitalization strategies at our fingertips. One of the ways Bridgeport Main Street hopes to meet some of its goals is by using the Main Street Four-Point Approach.
